I miss Seattle with the cold weather, greyness, & constant rain. I miss real Christmases. I think both mom and dad are coming to LA next week for a part of Thanksgiving -- I can't wait. I miss family. I miss stability...consistency...comfortability. I've never felt so unmotivated for school. I wish I can just drown myself in my blankets, cuddle in my bed with a warm cup of tea and a good book. I want to just lie down on my back, stare into nothing, and listen to great music. I even want to numb my brain with some TV! I want to go to a museum. I want to watch a movie in a theater. I want to be a part of mother nature for a day...or two.

Writ 340 assignment due at midnight. Le sigh.

I watched Bolt with the lil sis this weekend! We went to go eat at California Fresh (I think that's what it's called. On Westwood), shopped at Bev Center, and then watched a movie at Century City. In the night, went to Beta I-night and then Busby's! (West again though -_-. One day I will get to East!)

Oh yeah, went to Opera/Crimson with the Beta Thetas, Ce, Steph, Rena, and two chis (Karen & Cindy). The place was really nice. Somehow, I ended up eating dinner with two random guys I met at the club -- I don't even recall how I met them? But, I'm young and life is all about spontaneity and meeting new people.

Off to slave away on Writ 340 . UGHHHH :(



Us bored in the bathroom... Quantum of Solace was sold out and the closest movie was Bolt...but we got to watch it in 3-D. And I love love love the hamster named Rhino aaahhh :D

So today, I had an interview for NPR. Funny thing is that the first article I read when I got back to my apartment was the feature on interview suits. Awesome. I think I did well; it was just the pre-lim stage, where meeting up with the hiring manager would just give me brownie points, but I'd still have to apply and send in clips to land the summer internship. It'll be based in D.C., so not 100% sure if I want to go through with that. I'm trying to look for something in NYC. Top 3: CNN, WSJ, ABC, NBC (okay, top 4, but ABC & NBC are equal)

Tonight=OPERA/CRIMSON. YAY. I finally get to go out after what feels like a looong time of staying cooped up in the Annenberg and apt. On a side note/observation, I think I spend an avg of 8 hrs per day here (I AM IN THE DIGITAL LAB RIGHT NOW. ON A FRIDAY.). A bunch of Sigmas and outside friends are going to meet up there-- Crimson, I've been to. Opera, I haven't. From what I recall from a Thursday, Crimson was small and the guy to girl ratio was ridonkulous (at least 2:1). Unlike guys, a higher opposite-gender ratio is not that awesome for girls. I'm most excited to see Opera though. I've always wanted to go on a Wednesday where there's a mixed crowd.

Tomorrow, if things go as planned, we're heading to Busby's East -- part club, part bar, part pool hall. It'll be fun after watching the Stanford game- chill, but rowdy, and it'll be great to meet new people. I think the crowd is UCLA-ers/West LAers in their early to late 20s.

Alright, I am getting OUT OF HERE. Wearing pumps and biking in a skirt is no bueno.

What am I doing wrong?

Okay, I'm tired of beating around the bush. I'm a beautiful
(spectacularly beautiful) 25 year old girl. I'm articulate and classy.
I'm not from New York. I'm looking to get married to a guy who makes at
least half a million a year. I know how that sounds, but keep in mind
that a million a year is middle class in New York City, so I don't think
I'm overreaching at all.

Are there any guys who make 500K or more on this board? Any wives? Could
you send me some tips? I dated a business man who makes average around
200 - 250. But that's where I seem to hit a roadblock. 250,000 won't get
me to central park west. I know a woman in my yoga class who was married
to an investment banker and lives in Tribeca, and she's not as pretty as
I am, nor is she a great genius. So what is she doing right? How do I
get to her level?

Here are my questions specifically:

- Where do you single rich men hang out? Give me specifics- bars,
restaurants, gyms

-What are you looking for in a mate? Be honest guys, you won't hurt my
feelings

-Is there an age range I should be targeting (I'm 25)?

- Why are some of the women living lavish lifestyles on the upper east
side so plain? I've seen really 'plain jane' boring types who have
nothing to offer married to incredibly wealthy guys. I've seen drop dead
gorgeous girls in singles bars in the east village. What's the story
there?

- Jobs I should look out for? Everyone knows - lawyer, investment
banker, doctor. How much do those guys really make? And where do they
hang out? Where do the hedge fund guys hang out?

- How you decide marriage vs. just a girlfriend? I am looking for
MARRIAGE ONLY

Please hold your insults - I'm putting myself out there in an honest
way. Most beautiful women are superficial; at least I'm being up front
about it. I wouldn't be searching for these kind of guys if I wasn't
able to match them - in looks, culture, sophistication, and keeping a
nice home and hearth.

Dear Pers-431649184:

I read your posting with great interest and have thought meaningfully
about your dilemma. I offer the following analysis of your predicament.
Firstly, I'm not wasting your time, I qualify as a guy who fits your
bill; that is I make more than $500K per year. That said here's how I
see it.

Your offer, from the prospective of a guy like me, is plain and simple a
crappy business deal. Here's why. Cutting through all the B.S., what you
suggest is a simple trade: you bring your looks to the party and I bring
my money. Fine, simple. But here's the rub, your looks will fade and my
money will likely continue into perpetuity...in fact, it is very likely
that my income increases but it is an absolute certainty that you won't
be getting any more beautiful!

So, in economic terms you are a depreciating asset and I am an earning
asset. Not only are you a depreciating asset, your depreciation
accelerates! Let me explain, you're 25 now and will likely stay pretty
hot for the next 5 years, but less so each year. Then the fade begins in
earnest. By 35 stick a fork in you!

So in Wall Street terms, we would call you a trading position, not a buy
and hold...hence the rub...marriage. It doesn't make good business sense
to "buy you" (which is what you're asking) so I'd rather lease. In case
you think I'm being cruel, I would say the following. If my money were
to go away, so would you, so when your beauty fades I need an out. It's
as simple as that. So a deal that makes sense is dating, not marriage.

Separately, I was taught early in my career about efficient markets. So,
I wonder why a girl as "articulate, classy and spectacularly beautiful"
as you has been unable to find your sugar daddy. I find it hard to
believe that if you are as gorgeous as you say you are that the $500K
hasn't found you, if not only for a tryout.

By the way, you could always find a way to make your own money and then
we wouldn't need to have this difficult conversation.

With all that said, I must say you're going about it the right way.

So the election was this past Tuesday! As an objective journalist, I shouldn't be revealing any political affiliations, but I'd just like to say I did not vote for the person who chose SARAH PALIN as vice president. Thank god. Not so mavericky after all, Palin. You betcha'!

I watched Obama's acceptance speech the next day, and boy, I love how he can turn around a phrase and just make it pierce right through you. I teared...and am now in utter adoration. I also love Michelle Obama. I give her a four thumbs up (toes included) for not wearing those staid suits w/ pearls that most first ladies wear.

Paris - The beginning of the beginning.

Since junior year at Newport, after my french class had a week-long spring break exchange to Perpignan, I knew I wanted to study abroad in college. It was one of those must-do, only-in-college experiences I promised myself like joining a club/org I was passionate about (ATVN), having lunch with a professor, wandering around in the library perusing old dusty broken-spined books, or more trivial collegiate activities such as joining a sorority and going on a wild spring break (still yet to be done). Studying abroad was one of them, and I can finally cross that off my list.

I applied early this Fall, and only recently found out my acceptance into the USC Semester in Paris program, where I'll be taking classes at La Sorbonne, Institut Catholique, & Accent. I know a few kids going on the program with me, but for the most part, the other 27 or so will be new faces. I'm excited to branch out of the niche I've been so accustomed to the last two plus years. It'll be like a new start- another try at freshman year, a new group of friends (Trojans or others), a quasi-new family. I can't wait!

I write to document every aspect of this journey including the initial stages in the U.S, which brings me to an experience I had at the all-university study abroad orientation. Here's what I retained (sadly):

"Pease be vigilant of attempts by others to get you drunk for entertainment value."

Cranking it out

Ahhhhhhh I have to start sometime. I've been delaying this blog since the end of sophomore year, and finally after a 2-hr long procrastination session reading student travel blogs from Northwestern U., I was inspired to get my own blog going.

This blog, "Daily News Flush," was originally intended as a space to plop down any fascinating/quirky news stories I found on the web, or facts learned in class...or life for that matter, but I think I'll make it more personal. Perhaps I'll even prolong it to Paris this Spring.

It's almost 4am, and I have about two more assignments to go and an endless amount of mini-errands to do like making calls for interviews (the ultimate BANE of being a journalist). I took a cozy little three hour catnap around dinner time, so my battery life is still high. Speaking of naps, my brother sent me an interesting look into them. Check it out here.
